With essays from fourteen First Nations artists from a variety of disciplines, the collection provides insight into the paths that led each artist to pursue and develop his or her craft. The essays explore many common themes around the role of art in First Nations communities, including the importance of art for creating social change, the role of art in representing Native culture and the fusion of traditional and contemporary techniques. Drew Hayden Taylor is an award-winning playwright, novelist, scriptwriter and journalist. Born and raised on the Curve Lake First Nation in Central Ontario, Drew recently celebrated the publication of his twenty-fifth book and looks forward to seeing what other stories the Creator sees fit to bless him with. Two of his earlier books include Me Funny and Me Sexy (Douglas & McIntyre 2006 and 2008).
