Meditations of First Philosophy is a philosophical work by French philosopher Ren����� Descartes, originally published in Latin in 1641. The book is divided into six meditations, in which Descartes reflects on the nature of knowledge, the existence of God, and the relationship between mind and body.In the first meditation, Descartes introduces the method of doubt, in which he calls into question all of his beliefs in order to arrive at a foundation of knowledge that cannot be doubted. In the second meditation, he concludes that the only thing he can be certain of is his own existence, as expressed in the famous phrase ""Cogito, ergo sum"" (I think, therefore I am).In the third meditation, Descartes argues for the existence of God, based on the idea that a perfect being must necessarily exist in order to account for the idea of perfection. In the fourth meditation, he explores the relationship between mind and body, and argues that they are distinct entities that interact with each other.In the fifth meditation, Descartes discusses the nature of truth and error, and argues that our knowledge of the world is limited by our own perceptions and biases. In the sixth and final meditation, he concludes that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong process, and that we must continually strive to improve our understanding of the world.Overall, Meditations of First Philosophy is a foundational work of modern philosophy, and is widely regarded as one of the most important philosophical texts in Western thought.Many other matters respecting the attributes of God and my own nature or mind remain for consideration; but I shall possibly on another occasion resume the investigation of these. Now (after first noting what must be done or avoided, in order to arrive at a knowledge of the truth) my principal task is to endeavour to emerge from the state of doubt into which I have these last days fallen, and to see whether nothing certain can be known regarding material things.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
