At age five, Jennifer was sent to live with her grandparents in Rock Hall, Jamaica, after her mother ended an abusive relationship with her father. Jennifer began to thrive in the close-knit community of Rock Hall, nourished by the love of her grandparents. By the time she reached school age, she had grasped concepts easily and excelled at learning. Many thought that she had a promising future.Her life began to unravel when her father moved her back to Kingston at eight years old and left her in the care of relatives when he migrated to the United States. At fifteen, Jennifer migrated to the United States and encountered challenges that threatened her sense of self.
