Healing and grieving is not a straightforward process, it's messy, confusing and unpredictable, and it takes us to depths we're at times not certain we can survive. Sometimes the only way through the pain is to express all of its unpleasantness, bitterness and resentment.
My Name Means Bitter is a place of solace for those who are tired of being told to look on the bright side, be the bigger person, or just be grateful. These poems allow readers to let their own grief, anger and hopelessness flow without shame. The bright side will always return, but for these moments, writer and reader can linger in their darkness safely.
