Generations of Christians were taught that their bodies were dangerous. Culture taught them their bodies were everything. Both were wrong.
Naked Before God is a theology of the body for adult and young adult Christians who've inherited the wreckage of purity culture, the noise of a hyper-sexualized world, and a faith that went silent on the questions that mattered most. It's a book for the people the Church lost - not because they stopped caring about God, but because no one ever told them the truth about what their bodies actually mean.
What if the body isn't the problem? What if it never was?
Across seven chapters, Declan Solace dismantles the shame and traces what Scripture actually says about the body - from the raw intimacy of creation, through the Hebrew words your pastor never explained, to the early church practice that would make most modern Christians blush. Along the way, he uncovers a revelation hiding in plain sight: that God encoded His own nature into human flesh, and the enemy has spent millennia making sure we never see it.
Drawing from the original Hebrew and Greek, the theology of the body tradition, early church history, and modern research on body image and shame, Naked Before God reframes the biblical narrative around the body with unflinching honesty and deep reverence. It explores how the act of sex mirrors the inner life of the Trinity, why circumcision was placed where it was, what the early church understood about baptism that we've forgotten, and why both pornography and purity culture accomplish the same enemy's goal: keeping us from reading what God wrote into our flesh.
This is not a book written from a pulpit. It's written by a fellow traveler - a man who spent years at war with his own body before discovering that the desires he was trying to kill were compass needles pointing toward a God he'd never fully seen. It is raw, conversational, sometimes provocative, and rooted in Scripture from cover to cover.
This is not soft. It is not sanitized. It is the conversation the Church should have been having all along - for anyone who ever felt that their body and their faith couldn't exist in the same room.
