by Zachary a. Calais (Author)
What do you see when you look out through your window? In his freshman work, Zachary Calais takes the reader on a journey through not only time, but also the entire spectrum of emotion, from joyous bliss to heart wrenching sorrow. Each one of the stories in this collection is capable of standing on its own. However, the reader soon discerns a gentle, underlying rhythm, not unlike a heartbeat, which weaves the tales together with a delicate, yet strong, thread of continuity. From the poignant titular story Observations from a Third-Story Window, moving through to the humor of The Ballad of Big Red, to the brutally honest series of vignettes collected into My Life as a Fairy Tale, you will not be left untouched by either the powerful narrative, or the themes and imagery that Zachary creates in the tapestry of this collection.
Author Biography
Zachary A. Calais was born sometime in the early to mid-1970's in Atlanta, Georgia. A lifelong lover of literature, Zachary desired to be an author from a very young age after witnessing his mother drop what she was doing and immediately type a story of several pages. Upon asking why she did so, she simply stated "I had a story that I just needed to write." It was then that he knew, eventually, he wanted to be an author. As he grew older, he also desired to pay the rent and keep the utilities working, and so he reluctantly entered the workforce, specializing in information technology and graphic design. While stuck in airports and hotel rooms while traveling for business, Zachary began penning short stories as a cure for boredom, which then merely languished in a laptop until one day someone pointed out that yes, he did have some measure of talent, and yes, he should really get a move on with "this whole writing thing". After marrying his own Prince Charming, Zachary maintains a base of operations in Atlanta, but reserves to right to pick up and go at any time without any notice.
