Or, put another way, it is as if a concealing, partitioning WALL of DARKNESS stands between them and Reality. The following are all proposed causes of, or contributing factors to, OCPD: Poor or inadequate socialization, brain dysfunction or abnormality, genetic predisposition, etc. And these can all be factors -to be sure. Yet, we are dealing with something, a mechanism or compelling influence, if you will, that renders a person's thinking distorted, negative and pessimistic, incomplete or partial, detrimental to their self at nearly all levels, and which mechanism is incapable of detection (by the unsuspecting person, at least). It is 'cloaked' under thoughts, feelings, and impressions, which are made to 'feel right' to the OCPD person, yet are absolutely wrong in the sense of their deleterious effect upon them, and those who are made to suffer along with them. How is this to be explained? What is shutting off the OCPD person's sight so effectively, so thoroughly? How are thoughts which are not wholly sane, made to APPEAR sane, and be accepted by the OCPD person as true? And how is it that when irrefutable evidence to the contrary is presented to the OCPD person that their entire approach to life is backward and self-defeating, they still cannot see the falsity of their unjustifiable mental positions and behavioral stance?
