Now available in paperback, the stunning conclusion to the bestselling Northwest Coast Legends series--a celebrated collection that brings together ancient Indigenous stories and timeless West Coast art.
In the Tsimshian village of Kitkatla, a group of children plays at being hunters, eager to emulate the grown-ups. But when their game turns to disrespecting a sacred crow, the Chief of the Heavens calls down a powerful, cleansing storm. As the sea rises, the villagers are forced to abandon their homes and tie themselves to the summit of Anchor Mountain, praying for survival and promising to honor all living things. When the waters finally recede, the villagers establish the Peace Dance--a ritual of gratitude and respect that continues to be performed at every potlatch.
