by Florence S. H. Young (Author)
"Pearls From the Pacific" is an evocative and personal account of missionary endeavors across the South Sea Islands and Queensland during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Written by Florence S. H. Young, a pivotal figure in the South Sea Evangelical Mission, this narrative provides a detailed perspective on the spread of Christianity among the indigenous peoples of the Pacific. Through her eyes, readers witness the challenges and triumphs of establishing missions in the Solomon Islands and working with the Kanaka people in Australia.
The work serves as both a historical record and a spiritual testimony, capturing the cultural encounters, the geography of the islands, and the deep convictions that fueled missionary expansion during this era. Young's writing highlights the transformative power of faith and the dedication required to bridge vast cultural divides. This volume is an invaluable resource for those interested in the history of global missions, Pacific Island history, and the life of a prominent woman leader in the evangelical movement. It offers a unique window into the social and religious dynamics of the Pacific region during a time of significant change.
