When SAP introduced the first version of the ABAP Development Tools (ADT) for Eclipse, it was a new and simple way to write code. Since then, it has evolved into a leading environment for modern ABAP development. Today, ADT is not just another tool; it is the foundation of SAP's tooling strategy and the gateway to ABAP Cloud and S/4HANA innovation.
This book is a practical guide to mastering Eclipse/ADT in everyday development. Learn how to build an application step by step. Discover how to define CDS views, implement RAP services, run tests, and debug effectively, including installation, quality checks, Fiori Elements UI, ATC, and integration of Git-based workflows. Leverage the tools that make ABAP development more productive than ever before.
Using a single end-to-end example, examine how projects, packages, transports, and services fit together-entirely within ADT.
This book is written for ABAP developers who already know the language but want to work more effectively in Eclipse/ADT. It is also for anyone moving from the classic workbench, or developers coming from other IDE backgrounds, who want to understand what new possibilities the modern tooling unlocks.
By the end of the book, Eclipse/ADT will feel less like an optional alternative and more like the natural space for professional ABAP development.
- Install, configure, and connect Eclipse/ADT to ABAP
- Work with projects, packages, CDS views and RAP services
- Debug, test, and run quality checks with ABAP Unit and ATC
- Use Git/abapGit workflows and manage transports efficiently
