Dr. Bill Walker, an M.D., and Dr. Nancy Walker, a Ph.D. in genetics, were a young couple with tremendous hope, only to see their life together shattered by fear, anxiety, and drug abuse. Driven apart by their struggles and medicated with drug and alcohol dependency, their marriage ended in divorce.

They faced continued battles: Nancy's recovery from addiction, the pain of failed second marriages, and later, her life-threatening struggle with breast cancer and sepsis.
