Adolescent sexuality begins at puberty. It is characterized by increased sexual interests. Due to increased levels of androgen and estrogen in this period in adolescents, their thought processes are often directed towards sexuality. The risks associated with sexual activity are considerable if safe sex is not practiced. Adolescents are more likely to contract a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or have an unwanted pregnancy.
