After presenting the Reformation and English Puritanism as episodes of revival, Haykin focuses our attention on two particular moments of renewal: the transatlantic Great Awakening in the mid-eighteenth century and the revival of the Particular Baptists in the British and Irish archipelago at the close of the eighteenth century. This study reveals a helpful paradigm for thinking about revival and provides principles for understanding this all-important subject. Michael A. G. Azad Haykin serves as professor of church history and biblical spirituality at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky.
