Rooster is a lovable, energetic, and curious puppy who wants to help children understand and learn about life. In Rooster's Day at the Spa, after playing outside in mud, Rooster is taken by Mommy Millie to Cookie's Spa for a bath. Cookie, a pink-eared dog, introduces Rooster to her tools: files, nail clippers, q-tips, and toothbrushes, and teaches him about good hygiene. While at the spa, Rooster shares a story with his new friend Butch and gives Butch advice about befriending a mean neighbor, a skunk. Rooster also shows sympathy and kindness to Lucy, an injured puppy recuperating from surgery also visiting the spa.
With 38 pages, including 15 full color, full page illustrations, Rooster's Day at the Spa is ideal as an early reader, with its simple sentence structures and short paragraphs. Young children just learning to read can use the illustrations to help learn the words while older children can practice and grow comfortable with their reading skills. In addition, Rooster's Day at the Spa includes Talking Points for Parents in which several key story concepts are outlined for educational discussions with children.
