Alone and pursued by shadows through a run-down American West, a jaded young woman with a violent past stumbles into a town overtaken by supernatural monsters determined to exploit humanity for a new utopia.
Trouble is in our blood.
It's the last warning Rise Maddoc's mother gave before she turned up dead, just like her little sister.
Rise searches desperately for answers about her brutal family curse, but when a gruesome outbreak turns her town into bleeding, raging cannibals overnight, her luck doesn't seem to be improving.
To make matters worse, now something even more sinister is snatching bodies, living and dead alike, and everyone is hallucinating tall, gaunt figures roaming the darkness.
Determined to overcome her family's doomed legacy, Rise is caught up in a scheme bigger and darker than she ever imagined. To survive, she'll have to confront her worst fear-that her ancestral curse was always coming for her too. In fact, surviving may be the unluckiest fate of all.
Because one thing is certain: Death isn't always the worst of your troubles. And no matter who you become, your monsters will always find you.
