Spanning cultures, identities and emotions, Miller's portraits capture the raw essence of the human condition
Chicago-based photographer Sandro Miller (born 1958) has photographed both the famous and the anonymous, from celebrities such as John Malkovich to a series on female cancer survivors. On Earth as It Is Not in Heaven is his tribute to humankind. The portraits collected here are of actors, athletes, celebrities and ordinary people of every culture, race and gender--all of whom are experiencing life as it has been dealt to them. Taken at 1/25th of a second, these images capture the minute flashes of joy, suffering, wisdom and experience accrued throughout the journey of life that we all take. Miller makes his portraits neither for himself nor the subject, but for the viewer--to help feel deeper the joys, the struggles and everything else we feel during that short time we call a life.
