In Secrets of the Red Caps in Northern Ireland, an English Military Policeman - who would make Northern Ireland his home - reveals the shocking truth behind one of the most violent conflicts of our time.
His first day began with a high-speed chase: pursuing his own father's car through hostile territory, unaware that every mile could be his last. This was just the beginning of a journey that would see him face down IRA terrorists, survive devastating bomb attacks, and uncover secret deals that changed the course of the Troubles.
Experience life as a Red Cap for a day in the chaos of the Troubles: where terrorists recognised no rules and peril lurked around every corner, on duty or off. From the deadly border checkpoints to the mean streets of Belfast, he offers a raw, unflinching account that includes never-before-seen photographs and exclusive insights into the shadowy world of a cross-border informer.
In a heart-stopping encounter, he found himself in a deadly game of cat and mouse with Martin McGuinness, the IRA commander who sought to outwit him and would later become Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland.
But this is more than guns and bullets. The author exposes hidden political undercurrents that shaped the conflict, revealing explosive secret arrangements with the IRA that the public never knew existed.
As he fought to stay alive on one of the world's most hazardous assignments, he also fought for something else: the love of a Northern Irish girl who made every risk worth taking.
Part gripping memoir, part historical revelation, this is what it was really like to serve as a Red Cap during the Troubles - a testament to survival, love, and the relentless pursuit of truth from the team that brought you the bestseller, The Border Cleansing.
