Silas, an orphan at the age of ten was bound to a nearby farmer until Silas turned eighteen. Silas traveled for a few years until finally settling in Troy, Walworth County, Wisconsin. Silas married twice, prospered as a farmer and mill owner, built a large farmhouse, and raised a large family.
