by Andrew Hanna (Composer)
Solitary Dancer is an original jazz-fusion composition for quartet that combines driving rock rhythms with contemporary jazz improvisation. The piece opens with a powerful bass guitar ostinato built on power chords, supporting a unison melody shared between electric guitar and alto saxophone before unfolding into an open improvisational section.
Following the initial solo section, a repeating interlude gradually accelerates the music, building momentum toward a contrasting second theme and concluding improvisation. The opening section is centered on E♭7sus, while the latter half introduces a series of unrelated harmonies that provide contrasting color and intensity.
Written for advanced musicians seeking energetic and distinctive jazz-fusion repertoire, Solitary Dancer is well suited for live performance, concerts, and recording projects.
