Kiara Frey is a young villager in a kingdom where a curse has prevented the inhabitants from seeing the sunlight for fifty years. Her life changes overnight when the Knights of the Eternal Star arrive to recruit the most capable young people to fight against the dangers lurking in the darkness. Although the call is only for men, Kiara stands out by using her combat skills to defend her brother from the taunts of some boys. This is how she ends up in the ranks of the ruthless commander, Jude Maddox.
Jude, also known as the Hand of Death, has a painful past that turned him into a cold, hard, and unreachable man. Despite this facade, Kiara manages to see his true self, allowing an undeniable attraction to grow between them, one as dangerous as the shadows themselves.
