With the permission of God, the souls in Purgatory are sometimes permitted to make their plight known to the living on earth. This book is a large collection of those stories, drawn from well-documented sources and holy authors. They are sure to astonish the intellect and touch the heart, revealing what in the lives of these souls still needs reparation and purification, how much they suffer for the smallest sins, and how they plead and hope for our benefaction.
Modern Catholics have largely lost the understanding of the unity of the Church Militant and Church Suffering, and our duty in charity to help these souls who cannot help themselves. Charity toward them by Masses. Indulgences, alms, prayers, penances, etc., is very pleasing to God.
One will also learn from these accounts that these holy souls are very powerful intercessors in return for our assistance.
One learns about the holiness of God and the rigors of divine justice, that we may not take lightly even minor infractions and imperfections, for we "will not be released until we have paid the last penny." (Matt. 5:26; Lk 12:59).
