A rideshare driver's dashcam in Atlanta. Body camera footage from a social worker's final visit to an Appalachian hollow. Eleven Hi8 tapes recovered from a summer camp that closed in the summer of 1997 and never explained why. A smart home AI still recording in an empty house in Beverly Hills. A fishing livestream over a drowned church, watched live by eighteen thousand people before the host disappeared. A state trooper's supplemental report on a funeral procession that crossed the wrong bridge.
These are twenty found documents: incident files, archive logs, evidence reports, broadcast records, each one assembled from footage that exists, submitted to an authority that cannot act on it, assigned a case number that will never be closed. A feed store's public-access broadcast. A baby monitor. A deer camera. A pawn shop's security ring. A motel on the Blue Mist Highway. The cameras were running. They recorded everything.
That is the problem.
Status: Open is found-footage horror on the page. Every story is built from the paperwork that outlives its people: the timestamps, the transcripts, the chain-of-custody forms, the officer's note that the file is being kept open pending further information that will never come. There are no narrators here, only records, and the records are not on your side. From the Georgia mountains to the Nevada desert, the collection walks the back roads of the American South and West, where the old things have learned to wait for a lens.
Read it the way it was filed: one case at a time, with the lights on.
