Surviving the Silence: A Memoir of Faith, Fatherhood, and the Sound of God's Grace is a deeply personal, spiritually rich, and emotionally honest memoir about the sacred tension between unanswered prayers and unwavering faith.
With the Canaanite woman of Matthew 15 as a guiding companion, Rev. Dr. Robert F. Cheeks, Jr., invites readers into his journey through unexplained infertility, grief, and the quiet ache of waiting on God. This is not a story of instant miracles or easy resolutions. It is the testimony of a man who learned how to believe again when God went quiet. A pastor who preached while bleeding. A husband who hoped while breaking. A father who discovered that love doesn't always come through biology, but through divine assignment.
Dr. Cheeks shares moments of raw vulnerability from whispered prayers in hotel rooms to courtroom miracles, from family support that held him up to a child who arrived not by blood, but by grace. In every chapter, he breaks open the silence to show how God still speaks, still heals, and still writes stories that go far beyond what we imagined.
This book speaks to anyone who has ever waited in the dark. It is for those navigating infertility, adoption, spiritual silence, or delayed dreams. It's a guide for pastors who lead while quietly suffering, and for believers learning to trust God in the in-between.
With poetic honesty, biblical insight, and cultural awareness, Surviving the Silence doesn't just tell a story, it invites you to reflect, heal, and believe again. The end of the book includes reflective questions and prayers for each chapter to help readers process their own silent seasons and discover that even in the quiet, God is still moving.
This isn't just a memoir. It's a movement. A declaration that your silence is not your end. And when the sound comes back, it's sacred.
