Mel Thane's troubles begin when he tries to hustle a ride out of L.A. for Phoenix. A little man named Wilson is looking for a driver, and they hook up. But Wilson isn't really going to Phoenix. He only needs a driver as a patsy in case he's caught trying to escape from his partners. Wilson is part of a blackmailing ring.
