Author Biography
Torey Hayden has had a long career working with troubled children. She has served as a special education teacher, regular education teacher, child psychologist, psychiatric researcher. She currently works as a consultant. Hayden is the author of eight international best-selling trade non-fiction titles about troubled children, including One Child and Somebody Else′s Kids, drawn from her own teaching experience. These books provide the case study foundation for the proposed book and its model of relationship-driven instruction.

Michael Marlowe is a Professor of Special Education in the Department of Language, Reading, and Exceptionalities at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. He received his Ph.D. in Special Education with emphasis in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders from the University of Florida. Professor Marlowe has 40 years of experience in educating troubled children, having held positions as a special education teacher, mental health worker, wilderness instructor, university professor, consultant, and researcher. Currently Mike conducts academic research on the effective use of Torey′s books in training new teachers and how the books can affect long-term attitudes towards individuals with special needs.
