The subject of temperance in diet is one that demands our attention and is the means of saving us from a thousand troubles that lurk all around. Living temperate lives requires sacrifice which most people are not willing to give. However, if strict temperance is observed, it will serve as a protection instead of a restriction.
When temperance in eating and drinking is viewed as a blessing instead of a restriction, it becomes easier for us to make healthier choices in our diet. Adding life to our years is far better than adding years to our lives. We do not want to live a long and miserable life, full of doctor's visits, but we want to live a long life where our lives are full of life, vigor, and health. It is possible if we deny ourselves of health-destroying practices and lifestyles.
