A young woman murders her boyfriend, with her mother's help. The summer heat beats down on Almería, on the southeastern coast of Spain, as the women push the corpse around town in a wheelchair. Strolling in the sun and drinking cocktails in beachside bars with the body for company, the women repeatedly phone a local judge to ask him to handle the case. They'll make it easy for him: They are guilty and willing to give a detailed account of why and how they committed the murder. But the judge doesn't answer, and their messages go straight to voicemail. This debut novel by award-winning playwright and poet Carla Nyman is a fever dream in the style of Almodóvar, a dark comedy that raises uncomfortable questions about desire, femininity, jealousy, sex and love.
Author Biography
Carla Nyman (Palma de Mallorca, 1996) es escritora y directora de escena. Ha publicado los poemarios Líquida tuya y vertebrada (Letraversal, 2023), Movernos en la sed (VI Premio Valparaíso, 2021) y Elegías para un avión común (XXI Premio Gloria Fuertes, 2020). Antigua residente de la Fundación Antonio Gala, del Programa de Desarrollo de Dramaturgias Actuales (INAEM) y del Teatro Principal de Palma, sus espectáculos se han estrenado en ciudades como Madrid, Sevilla y Zaragoza. Su obra Yo solo vine a ver el jardín resultó ganadora en el Certamen Internacional Almagro OFF. Sus piezas teatrales han sido reunidas en Quiero ver cómo la gente sin cuerpos hace el amor (Cántico, 2023). Sus intereses abarcan el teatro inmersivo, experimental, la cuestión de la escatología, así como la representación artística de la experiencia fusional. Imparte clases de escritura dramática en la Universidad de Salamanca. Tener la carne es su primera novela.
