Wilhelmsson is a professor of philosophy at San Jose State University. As a professor John is known for his thoughtful and independent interpretations and intuitive teaching style. Born and raised in San Jose California John became interested in having a career in philosophy after reading \"Fides et Ratio\" (Faith and Reason) by Pope John Paul II. He made Edith Stein the focal point of his research because John Paul II mentioned her in this work. With the support of the fine professor of philosophy Richard Tieszen John began his research on Edith Stein.
