- Same words. No added or deleted words.
- Same word spelling.
- Same word capitalization.
- Same punctuation.
Format:
- Same words on each page. The words on page 10 of this edition are the same words on page 10 of the 1830 Edition. However, a word divided between two pages appears on the page on which it begins. This edition does not exactly match the 1830 Edition text line for line because of added LDS verse numbers in superscript and no word division occurs at the end of a line of text.
- Same paragraph formatting.
- Same chapter breaks.
The following features were added to the 1830 Edition text to aid study and to aid reference to the current LDS Book of Mormon:
- Verse numbers in superscript. The LDS verse number is written in superscript before the first word of the verse.
- Book, chapter, and verse. The LDS book, chapter, and verse for the first full verse on the page is written at the top left corner of the page.
- LDS chapter breaks. The LDS chapter breaks are inserted into the text using bracketed text. Current LDS chapter summaries are not included.
- NEW. Spelling and Typesetting Errors. A spelling or typesetting error is followed by the correction in brackets. Spelling variants (armour, baptise, centre, cimeter, fulness, marvellous, Saviour, and so on) are not corrected.
- NEW. First Edition Variations. In the 1970s, researchers examined 70 first edition copies and found 41 textual variations in 60 unique combinations. The author and other researchers have found additional variations. A superscript letter notes a first edition variation (FEV) contained in the Endnotes.
- NEW. Significant Manuscript or Printed Edition Differences. In 2001, the Book of Mormon Critical Text Project published the printer's manuscript (P) and the extant portions of the original manuscript (O). Thereafter, Analysis of Textual Variants of the Book of Mormon based on O, P, and 17 major printed editions of the Book of Mormon was published in six volumes. A superscript letter notes a significant manuscript or printed edition difference in the Endnotes.
