The Catastrophe of Disaster Aid critically examines both the
effectiveness and limitations of non-governmental organization (NGO) aid,
particularly in the attempt to achieve sustainable development in the
aftermath of disasters.

Haiti, the book argues that effective disaster aid must make development a
centrepiece of its intervention in order to reduce future vulnerabilities and
build resilient communities. In the context of a failed state like Haiti, where
