It is the thesis of this volume that Americans are still fighting, sometimes violently, the same Civil War we thought was over more than a century ago. If you are concerned about the political, medical, racial, environmental, and other crises currently testing Americans and their democracy, the first two thirds of this book are designed to both inform and to entertain you, including a number of poems about the divisive Donald Trump. The final section is composed of more personal poems about family personalities, fantasies, poetry, and a number of delightful animals.
Author Biography
Lance Carden holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Oregon and was a writer/editor at The Christian Science Monitor. His published works include Witness: An Oral History of Black Politics in Boston (1989), Tuscan Retreat (2013), City of Lions (2015), and Spiritual Exercise (2019). A play, Democracy & Its Demise, was staged in 2018. He has studied abroad at the University of Frankfurt and the Institute for the Study of Politics, Paris.
