Dr. Margaret Calder spent forty years at the heart of the Blackmore Vale. She delivered babies, sat with the dying, and kept the secrets of an entire community locked away behind a doctor's careful silence. Now she is dead in her chair, and the vale is mourning one of its own.
But DCI Rhys Morgan is not so sure Margaret died naturally. And when toxicologist Dr. Meera Patel finds something the undertaker missed, a quiet death becomes a murder investigation unlike any the team has faced before.
The killer used no weapon that can be recovered. Left no crime scene that can be read. Only patience, and access, and the knowledge that poison disguised as old age is almost impossible to see.
Almost.
As Rhys and his team begin to unpick the layers of a community's hidden past, they discover that Margaret Calder knew things - things people had spent decades trying to forget. And that the cost of her silence was, in the end, her life.
The Country Doctor Murder is the fifth book in the Blackmore Vale Mysteries - a series of atmospheric British detective novels set in the heart of Hardy country.
