The immediate aftermath of World War I coincided with the tenure of Rear Admiral Mark L. Bristol as the US High Commissioner in the Ottoman Empire and later the Turkish Republic (1919-27). Hakan Özoğlu is Professor of History and Director of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Central Florida. He is the author of Kurdish Notables and the Ottoman State (SUNY Press, 2004) and From Caliphate to Secular State (ABC-Clio/Praeger Publishers, 2011), alongside 5 monographs published in several languages.
