The Digital Shield: State Responsibility in a New Era of National Security is a groundbreaking book that explores how nations can defend themselves in the twenty-first century. In today's interconnected world, borders are no longer just physical-they are digital. Cybersecurity has become as essential to sovereignty as armies, borders, and constitutions.
Drawing on global trends, real-world cases, and forward-looking analysis, this book explains why governments must treat cybersecurity as a public good and a central responsibility of the state. From protecting critical infrastructure and financial systems to ensuring democratic integrity and data privacy, The Digital Shield shows how digital resilience underpins trust, investment, and stability.
Readers will discover:
- Why cyber sovereignty is now as vital as territorial control.
- How states can build national cybersecurity strategies, cyber ministries, and digital agencies that actually work.
- The emerging role of cyber law, privacy protections, and international norms in safeguarding citizens.
- Practical insights into protecting critical infrastructure, fintech systems, supply chains, and democratic institutions.
- The importance of cyber literacy, public trust, and global cooperation in shaping a secure digital future.
This is not a technical manual. It is a call to action. Written in clear and accessible language, The Digital Shield speaks to policymakers, scholars, business leaders, and citizens who understand that national security now depends on digital security.
If you care about the future of governance, democracy, and global stability in the information age, this book will give you the vision and tools to understand what is at stake-and what can be done.
