SOME INHERIT LAND. SOME INHERIT STORIES. HE INHERITED A ROAD.
Before sunrise each morning, a boy in rural Telangana walked eleven kilometers to school - through mud, cold, and red dust that clung to his bare feet. Those walks did more than take him to a classroom. They changed the course of an entire family.
From the red soil of Vattem, India, to the quiet neighborhoods of Carmel, Indiana, The Eleventh Kilometer traces a father who left his career at forty-five to devote the rest of his life to the temple he helped build, and a son who crossed an ocean to build a life of his own - only to discover, years later, that he had been walking his father's road all along. Between them stands a mother who taught them both how to stay, her quiet discipline holding three generations together.
The son grew up inside the stability his parents created. He carried anger long before gratitude, ambition long before presence. Only through loss and running did he begin to understand his inheritance: not wealth, but the courage to keep moving.
This is a memoir of what we inherit - struggle and sacrifice, silence and stubbornness.
Threaded through it all is an ancient refrain:
Charaiveti. Charaiveti. Keep moving.
