Author Biography
CALVIN HELIN is not only a best-selling author, international speaker, entrepreneur, lawyer and self-reliance activist but the subject of an unlikely success story of his own. Emerging from an impoverished childhood in a remote Native American village to become a leading authority on fiscal independence, he has been widely featured in national newspapers, radio and television shows addressing rising poverty and unemployment rates.
He also logs in hundreds of appearances annually as a speaker and expert source on destitution in the Native American community, which is said to rival conditions in third world countries. Mr. Helin currently serves as president and CEO of Eagle Group of Companies, LLC, president of the Native Investment and Trade Association, and director of the Vancouver Board of Trade, GeoScience BC, and the Canada-China Resource Development Foundation. He has received numerous national distinctions as an entrepreneur, social activist and community leader. Mr. Helin also serves as an ambassador for SOS Children's Village BC, a nonprofit organization providing safe foster care for vulnerable children. In addition, as a third-degree black belt he teaches at the Shudokan Karate and Education Society, a group he founded in 2002 that provides free martial arts lessons to hundreds of disadvantaged inner-city children to educate them in discipline, manners, self respect and other important life lessons. An advocate for empowerment, responsibility, and self-reliance, Helin is known for his work internationally as well as providing universal answers that can apply to every walk of life. He is a US permanent resident under the special Native American provisions of the Jay Treaty.
