The Gospel According to Thunder Johnson is the ancient story of Jesus retold in the language of a cowboy storyteller named Thunder Johnson (a play on the name of the Apostle John who was called a "Son of Thunder"). Thunder refers to himself as "the tag-along that was always close to Jesus" and dresses the story of Jesus up in the old west.
