A Kamikaze pilot slams into U.S.S. James F. Bridger off Okinawa, leaving Captain Jonas Pratt and his crew fighting hour after hour to keep their ship afloat. In smoke, chaos, and rising water, they improvise, endure, and somehow carry their shattered troopship toward safe harbor. But the war waiting over the horizon turns out to be far more dangerous. As Bridger limps away from the front, Soviet NKVD operatives move to turn the ship-and Pratt himself-into expendable pawns in a larger game. When traces of Japan's Unit 731 and its engineered plagues surface, Bridger and her crew are thrown back into the center of the storm. Working under impossible pressure, they set out to strip away and destroy the weapons before anyone can use them. The same men who saved their ship from sinking now fight to keep the world from inheriting something worse. In this gripping tale of World War II, Pratt and his crew must face a bitter truth-the greatest danger may not be the enemies they fought at sea, but the decisions made in their name in the higher halls of power.
