A warm, immersive way to learn Brazilian Portuguese through story.
The Mango Tree: Bilingual Brazilian Portuguese-English Stories for Kids is the second book in a unique 52-story reading system designed to help children learn Brazilian Portuguese naturally through stories, not memorisation or drills.
Set in the same warm Brazilian neighbourhood, Lia, her family, and her mischievous cat Mimi discover small adventures in gardens, streets, trees, and rainy afternoons. A yellow kite gets stuck in a tree, a single mango becomes a family treat, a mysterious cat watches the neighbourhood from a wall, and a sudden storm changes everyone's plans.
Each story builds on the language from the first book while gently introducing new vocabulary, expressions, and situations. Familiar words and sentence patterns are carefully recycled, helping children understand more with each story and gradually move from A1 towards high A1.
At this A1-A2 Foundations level:
Present tense remains dominant
Sentences are short, clear, and natural
Everyday vocabulary is repeated and reinforced
New vocabulary is introduced gradually
Brazilian settings, food, weather, animals, and family life add cultural richness
English translation support makes the stories accessible to beginners
Rather than learning through grammar explanations or drills, children absorb Brazilian Portuguese through repetition, context, humour, and emotional engagement.
Perfect for young beginners ready to continue their Portuguese journey through family, friendship, nature, food, and the small adventures hidden in everyday life.
