by Howard Pyle (Author)
In the sun-dappled glades of Sherwood Forest, a legend is born not of malice, but of a high and merry spirit. When young Robin Hood is forced into the life of an outlaw by a cruel turn of fate, he does not retreat into bitterness. Instead, he gathers around him a company of "sturdy fellows"-Little John, Will Scarlet, and Friar Tuck-vowing to right the wrongs of the world with a light heart and a steady aim.
From the famous bridge-fight with Little John to the daring archery contest at Nottingham, Robin's adventures are a celebration of wit, courage, and the bonds of true fellowship. Together, the Merry Men outsmart the Sheriff and the greedy, standing as champions for those who have no voice. Howard Pyle's masterpiece is more than a tale of bows and arrows; it is an exploration of the nobility found in simple honesty and the joy of a life lived in harmony with one's conscience.
Lavishly illustrated with Pyle's own iconic woodcut-style artwork, this definitive edition captures the robust energy of Merry Old England. It invites readers of all ages to leave the serious world behind for a time and enter a land of fancy where justice is served with a laugh and every path leads to a new adventure.
The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood is part of a complete collection of Howard Pyle's legendary works, now available in a matching set from Living Book Press.
