Amaya loves living in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood, where her best friend lives on the other side of her bedroom wall. She and Aracelys are so close they feel like sisters. But when Aracelys joins Amaya on the Nuñez family's vacation to Vermont, they discover that away from Washington Heights, they don't like the same things. Amaya is certain that Aracelys will love the night skies of Vermont, but Aracelys feels homesick and afraid of the dark. But even though the friends may disagree on the Vermont nights, they support each other and accept each other for their differences. The Other Side of the Wall is a heartfelt exploration of friendship, community, tolerance and acceptance: Community Atmosphere: Amaya has many family members, but she considers Aracelys her sister because they do everything together. Diverse Backgrounds: Amaya's family is Puerto Rican and Spanish; Aracelys' family is from the Dominican Republic. Their neighborhood has residents from all over the world who have found a "common ground" in this small part of New York City. Acceptance: During their trip to Vermont, the friends discover their likes and dislikes and discover how they can be friends with these differences.
