Along the rain-soaked highways of the American South, men accused of brutalizing women are dying.
The official explanations are simple: accidents, bad weather, bad luck. Investigative journalist Maisie Alliston doesn't believe in simple explanations.
Her search for the truth leads her to a network of small roadside chapels hidden beside truck stops and interstate exits-places offering coffee, blankets, prayer, and sanctuary to women with nowhere else to run. At the center stands the mysterious Mother Mercy and a movement known as the Saints of Exit 9.
To some, the Saints are heroes doing what courts and police failed to do. To others, they are vigilantes deciding who deserves mercy-and who deserves to die.
But the deeper Maisie investigates, the more dangerous the truth becomes. Survivors disappear. Records change. Law enforcement closes in. And the Saints seem to know things about Maisie that no stranger should know-including secrets buried in her own family.
Soon, exposing the Saints is no longer simply about uncovering who is responsible for the bodies along the highway. It is about confronting a far more unsettling question:
When justice fails, who gets to decide what replaces it?
The Saints of Exit 9 is a dark psychological thriller about justice, vengeance, sanctuary, and the terrifying distance between saving someone and controlling them.
