The Second Epistle to Timothy presents a final and deeply personal pastoral letter of the New Testament in the enduring language of the King James Version.
Traditionally attributed to the Apostle Paul and written during imprisonment, this epistle addresses Timothy with urgency and paternal concern. It calls for steadfast endurance in the face of hardship, urging the faithful minister to remain disciplined, courageous, and unswerving in the proclamation of the gospel. The imagery is martial and athletic: the good soldier, the striving competitor, the labouring husbandman-each reflecting perseverance and fidelity under strain.
The letter also carries the tone of farewell. Paul speaks of having "fought a good fight" and finished his course, awaiting the "crown of righteousness."
