Youth and the world reflect the magic each one holds.
In this warm Cajun-Americana tale, a father sits with his young son and opens a window to the past. He tells of their ancestor Billy, who once wandered the cypress-shadowed bayous and fields of Louisiana. There Billy met a most unusual friend-a gentle Sugar Dragon who breathed pure, sparkling sweetness. Together they soared over live oaks and Cajun towns, lachased fireflies, and, with every joyful puff of sugar-scented breath, planted the first sugar cane to take root in the rich Louisiana soil. From those magical beginnings grew a crop that would sweeten the tables of America.
Told in the playful, rhythmic spirit of classic children's storytelling, The Sugar Dragon celebrates wonder, family roots, and the quiet magic that still lives in the cane fields today.
A brief, true history of Louisiana sugar cane closes the book, grounding the whimsy in the real story of a crop that shaped a state.
