All people eventually die, but nature persists. Nature inspires writers to look forward to the sun rising the next day rather than worrying about the hardships of war, racism, mortality, and self-purpose. From flora to fauna, every part of nature impacts how humans tackle tough situations. Nature is Earth's art. Themes of exploring the world around us in nature literature allow readers to experience how authors navigate the natural world through writing. To some, nature is hard and unforgiving because of its frosty winters. To others, nature represents perseverance and rebirth through spring. By bridging the gap between nature and readers, literature shapes how people personally define nature.
This anthology brings together the works of seven British and American authors who explore nature in their writing: William Shakespeare, Gilbert White, John Keats, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Anne Spencer.
