Dale Conklin and Aslinn Perth grow up in a town bathed in legacy and legend, Glastonbury, England. They met on the Tor as children and on that day declared themselves king and queen. As they and their love grew they continued their game on the Tor, never giving thought to the King of the Fairies whose castle is said to lie beneath the Tor. Then one evening as they survey their imaginary kingdom, the ridges glow with eerie light and suddenly they find themselves before Gwyn ap Nudd. "The devil with me, you said. Now the devil is with you." Aslinn is overcome by a dream come true, all their childhood fantasies come to life before her, but fairy stories were Dale's favorite as a child, so he knows that to give in to their temptations will mean they will be trapped in Annwn (Anoon) forever. Dale uses all his wits to affect an escape with Aslinn, but when he reaches the Tor he finds himself alone. Now, as a firefighter in London, Dale saves lives, in an unfulfilled compensation for the love he could not save. But never is a long time and his mother is gravely ill and he must return to say good-bye to the only person who ever believed in him. Then the worst possible thing happens - two children go missing. One of them the daughter of Aslinn's younger sister, Beth. Dale heard the cry of the hounds in the dark of the night. He knows that it was Gwyn, the Master of the Hunt, on his search for souls, taunting him to return to Annwn and finish something started long ago.
