Michele Moore Veldhoen played slo-pitch with the Rainbows of Okotoks, Alberta for sixteen out of the team's twenty year history. During those years she raised a family and a few chickens, did the office work for a family business, went to university, became a politician, a model, and eventually, a teacher and writer.
Her memoir, The View From Right Field, is honest, touching, and on base with the importance and humour of her time with the Rainbows. It is a fond recollection of the value of sports and sporting friends after the daily struggle of work, relationships, kids, and the author's self -diagnosed Psychogenic Hypochondria.
This is a story not just for those who engage in sports. It embraces the value of the precious teammates in our lives; those who accept us and celebrate who we are in spite of warts, weaknesses, bad habits and tempers. Michele Moore Veldhoen's story will make you yearn for your own "Rainbows". You will want to call the "team" to meet up at the pub for a beer.
Thanks to her outrageous friends from the Rainbows and their national tours across Canada to compete in the SPN Molson Coors Slo-Pitch Championships, the author was able to keep her crazy life in perspective, and hold fast to that special place---right field.
