Born into a loving yet fractured home, Ann-Michel Kissler learns early how to survive chaos. With a father hostile to faith and a mother entangled in religious control, she grows up believing safety depends on self-reliance and perfection. By childhood, she turns to an eating disorder to cope-an invisible battle that follows her into adulthood.
Outwardly accomplished and deeply devout, Ann-Michel becomes a model Christian leader, musician, and scholar. Privately, her body and spirit are failing. When anorexia brings her to the brink of death, long-buried truths surface: childhood sexual abuse, a loveless and ultimately violent marriage, and a faith shaped more by fear than grace. As her marriage collapses and the church turns away, Ann-Michel walks away from everything she once trusted-including God.
What follows is not a tidy redemption story, but a hard-won return. Through love, motherhood, healing, and time, Ann-Michel discovers a God far different from the one she was taught-a God who redeems what He never caused, and who welcomes prodigals home without conditions.
The Weight of Perfect is a faith-anchored memoir of survival, spiritual reckoning, and restoration. Written for anyone wounded by religious systems yet still longing for God, this is a story of learning to lay perfection down-and answering the quiet call to come home.
