Tommy's Brave Thumb by Janet Cardello is a charming children's book about a little boy named Tommy who learns to overcome his thumb-sucking habit. Every night, Tommy sucks his thumb while cuddling his stuffed bear, Mr. Snuggles. When his mother encourages him to stop by gently reminding him that big boys don't need thumbs, Tommy initially worries about how he will fall asleep.
The next morning, fueled by new determination, Tommy and Mr. Snuggles create a "Brave Thumb Plan" alongside a star chart to track his thumb-free days. Throughout the story, Tommy learns creative ways to resist the urge to suck his thumb. He hugs Mr. Snuggles tightly during nap time and hums his favorite song instead, eventually using this humming trick to soothe his crying baby brother.
Supported by his family, Tommy earns gold stars, a sticker from his mom, a superhero cape painted on his thumbnail by his dad, and a special "One Week Brave" cake. He even receives a certificate at school for being "Thumb-tastic". By the end of the story, Tommy's chart is full of stars, and he peacefully falls asleep with his fingers laced together, having successfully conquered his habit.
