In this new book, doctor Goicoechea, renowned neurologist and expert in the neurobiology of pain, offers explanations as to why we can feel sick, even though we are actually healthy, according to an specialist's opinion. We perceive the body we think we have. The organism self-organizes and adapts to the environment it happens to live in. By trial-error-trial, it learns to assign a positive or negative value to each action in every scenario, and it unconsciously weaves a tale that projects in the screen of our consciousness as a movie. We exist convinced that this movie directly reflects reality, both external and internal. However, what we receive through this screen doesn't always fit what is actually happening. A healthy body can appear sick in this plot. It is a fiction movie, but to the sufferer (the spectator), it reveals an internal reality that they can't see with their own eyes.
Author Biography
Arturo Goicoechea nació en Mondragónen 1946. Se licenció en Medicina en la Universidad de Valladolid y se especializó en Neurología en los Hospitales de San Pau y Bellvitge de Barcelona, en 1978. En el mismo año, creó y dirigió la sección de Neurología del hospital de Santiago de Vitoria, permaneciendo en dicho cargo hasta la jubilación, en 2011. Inicialmente dedicó una atención especial al alcoholismo crónico. Más adelante se centró en la investigación de los llamados «síntomas sin explicación médica», desarrollando un marco teórico centrado en la hipervigilancia y en la influencia de la información experta.
Ha publicado Jaqueca, análisis neurobiológico de un dolor irracional (2004), Migraña, una pesadilla cerebral (2009), Desaprender la migraña (2019) y Sapiens, ma non troppo (2020).
